Please understand that review times will be delayed or fluctuate drastically while our team trains new content moderators as we work towards lower average review times.
We appreciate your patience and understanding.
Project reviews during and after this period may take upwards of two weeks, sometimes over a month, depending on review complexity.
Modrinth's team of content moderators work hard to review all submitted projects to ensure they comply with Modrinth's Rules and Terms of Use.
We try to review projects within 24 to 48 hours of submission (with fluctuations averaging two to four weeks, sometimes longer, due to the above delay), but there are many reasons your project could be taking longer.
Modpacks specifically have a slightly higher review estimate of 72 to 96 hours (3 to 4 days).
Why has my project been under review for more than 48 hours?
There are many reasons why certain projects may take longer to be reviewed:
There may be a lot of projects in the queue. Hundreds of projects get submitted each day, and sometimes our staff can't keep up with an unusual surge in submissions. Surges of new submissions regularly happen over the weekend, which cause brief delays
Moderators may have been unavailable. We try to consistently review every day of the week, but sometimes a moderator may be unavailable for personal reasons or holidays, and that may cause delays.
Moderators are being trained. It takes some time for new content moderators to get caught up. Training diverts the attention of more experienced content moderators, but with the goal of eventually improving review times.
Certain project types may take a bit longer. Mods, plugins, and especially modpacks may take a little longer than other types because they are more difficult to review.
Our malware detector might have flagged your project. We use an in-house malware scanning tool that may have detected suspicious traces in your code, which means it needs to have its code manually reviewed by our technical moderator. This may extend your project's review time significantly, or be completely unnoticed by you.
Due to these factors, we do not display any sort of "queue position" or wait time estimate. A project could be first in the queue, but take longer to review than others due to an extensive technical review, for example.
I think my project got "lost" in the queue?
Due to the way that Modrinth's queue system works, it is not possible for something to be "lost in the queue". If a project displays as "Under review", it will be reviewed.
Please note that asking about the status of your project in the queue will not expedite its review. Requesting updates on how long it will take to review a given project will slow us down.
It's been X days with no response, are you sure it's not been lost?
Yup! No messages in a project's Moderation tab simply means that there's no update. It does not mean that there's something wrong with a project, rather it's waiting for its turn in the queue. The review process itself is very quick, the bulk of the wait is due to the number of submissions that occurred first.
If I make changes to my project or upload new versions, will it go back to the end of the queue?
If a project hasn't been reviewed yet, its position in the queue will not change even if it's modified or new versions are uploaded.
Deleting old versions then uploading new versions might send the project to the end of the queue. Unless requested by the content moderators, or old versions violate Modrinth's content rules (such as including unlicensed content), deleting old versions during review is not recommended.
If a project has already been reviewed, it will get sent to the end of the queue upon re-submission after making the requested changes.
Can I speed up the review process?
Generally, no. Outside of very specific circumstances (such as deadlines for organized modding jams), the review process will take as long as required by the content moderators. Expediting reviews for one project will slow down reviews for all other projects.
The technical support team cannot review projects, so contacting them about your project's review status will not speed up a project's review.
